  1. I was en route to deliver this painting to Sladen's, when I stopped at Home Hardware. Linda and Don, owners of HH had seen "The Uncelebrated Sculpture" in a Pender Post ad in black and white. They expressed interest and wanted to know the colours. I said "I can show you as it is out in the car." Turns out toilets hold special meaning for them. About 20 years ago, the CRD decided everyone on Pender had to have a low flush toilet. Don and Linda ordered 300 toilets - a big risk - and sold them at cost. The warehouse was full of toilets. Although the Pender population was reluctant at first, turns out the toilets were a hit. They worked really well and the price was right. People were even coming from other islands to take advantage of the great deal. Anyway, after much political turmoil, the toilets sold out, the warehouse was reclaimed and everyone was happy. Now "The Uncelebrated Sculpture" is celebrating the memory of this event in Pender history.
