Blue Bridge Series #1 Slippery When Wet

The Johnson St Bridge opened for use to pedestrians, cyclists, cars, streetcars, horse and wagons and trains in 1924.  It consisted of two separate parallel bridge spans - one for the E and N railway.   It provides  access between the Inner Harbour and the Gorge waterway for marine traffic.  It was black until repairs in 1979 when it was painted blue.   In 2010 Victoria City Councillors voted to replace rather than upgrade the old bridge and in a referendum, the city of Victoria residents approved by 60%  the borrowing of money to replace the bridge.

The Neighbour's Shed

A small, quick one, looking east.

White Chairs and Lavender

I have spent the last week at a lovely home on the ocean with a view of Swanson Channel.
I have been doing plein air painting, battling the wasps and the hot sun.  So this one and the next few are quick studies of the scenery at this location.

Seaspan King

This painting is inspired by a photo taken by the late artist Rob Ocet.  He lived in Montreal and then Campbell River.  His son Rob was kind enough to lend me some of his photos, which are presumably from the Campbell River area.

Stuffed Queens

Normally these would be destined for a martini.
Right now they are trying to get a response from my warring taste buds.

Twin Pack

One of the many side effects of chemo (and least problematic) is the constant craving for carbs -.  The simpler the better.  Cheerios have become a staple.

The Photograph

On Victoria Day we came across these young ballerinas having their professional photo taken in the sunlit courtyard of the Victoria Library.

Madrona Gallery Show March 9 -23

The opening on March 9th was very busy.  Thanks to everyone who attended.  Madrona did a great job of framing and hanging the paintings.  Thanks!  The show runs until March 23rd.

Palm Shadows

Old Faithful

I am working on a new series of Victoria scenes for a solo show at Madrona Gallery in March.  Having trouble thinking of names,  I always do, so any suggestions are welcome.  This house is one I have always admired on Faithful in Fairfield.  I have also painted it from the other side with two  neighouring houses in one called "Faithful Trio".
